Organization: Special Olympics Missouri – Southwest Area
Position Type: Volunteer Leadership Role
Time Commitment: Approximately 4 quarterly meetings per year, plus optional participation in special events and fundraising activities throughout the year.

Make a Difference Through Leadership

Are you passionate about inclusion, community engagement, and creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities? Special Olympics Missouri – Southwest Area is seeking dedicated community leaders to serve on our newly established Southwest Area Leadership Council.

As a Leadership Council Member, you'll help shape the future of our local programs while making a lasting impact on the lives of more than 2,000 athletes and their families across Southwest Missouri.

What You'll Do

• Provide ideas, insight, and leadership to help strengthen Southwest Area programs.
• Serve as an ambassador for Special Olympics Missouri within the community.
• Assist with planning and supporting local sports competitions, fundraising events, and community initiatives.
• Help identify new partnerships, volunteers, sponsors, and opportunities to expand our reach.
• Advocate for inclusion and create awareness of the Special Olympics mission.
• Collaborate with fellow community leaders who are committed to making a difference.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking individuals who:

• Believe in the power of inclusion.
• Enjoy building relationships and engaging with the community.
• Have a passion for giving back.
• Bring unique skills, experiences, or perspectives that can strengthen our programs.
• Are willing to share their time, ideas, and enthusiasm.

No prior experience with Special Olympics is required—just a heart for serving others.

Commitment

• Attend quarterly Leadership Council meetings.

• Support area sports competitions, fundraising events, and community outreach opportunities as your schedule allows.

This is a new leadership initiative, and we are currently recruiting founding members. We are looking to get this council up and running by October 2026.
