As a Transmission Planning Engineer, you will help shape the reliability and future performance of the electric transmission system through power system modeling, transmission planning studies, and technical analysis. In this role, you will support Associated Electric Cooperative’s mission by building accurate models, analyzing system needs, and developing practical solutions that keep power moving safely and reliably. Tiny detail, massive impact, because electricity does not plan itself.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct load flow, short circuit, and stability studies to evaluate transmission system performance and identify solutions.

  • Build and maintain transmission system models through regional model-building groups and in-house automation tools.

  • Maintain accurate transmission planning databases by updating, validating, and communicating equipment data.

  • Prepare clear technical reports, compliance documents, study summaries, and meeting notes.

  • Collaborate with G&T partners, internal teams, and external organizations to support coordinated transmission planning.

  • Contribute to transmission planning processes that support reliability, compliance, and long-term system needs.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or equivalent experience

  • Typically 0 to 3 years of power industry experience for entry-level placement.

  • Basic understanding of transmission planning, reliability standards, substation design, transmission line design, and protective relaying.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Acute attention to detail and the ability to review technical information for accuracy.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a professional office environment with occasional travel for meetings or cooperative-related work.

Preferred

  • Power systems emphasis within an electrical engineering degree.
